What to Call Me: Mike/ Coach Mike
Who Am I: Growing up I pretty much experienced every sport whether that was myself playing it, friends, family, or watching it on television. For me, most of my time was focused on competitive baseball until high school where I started to focus more on volleyball. I played in high school and played club volleyball (Energy VBC and Sports Performance) for all four years. I knew that volleyball was my passion, so I ended up being recruited and played Division lll volleyball for Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. During my time at Carthage, I earned a degree in Psychology, had the opportunity to win multiple conference championships, and accomplished our goal of winning a national championship. After college, I wanted to continue my passion for volleyball, so I went on to coach at MOD and at the high school level. I am currently in graduate school at Adler University earning a double master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling along with Sport and Human Performance. With these experiences, I realized that I loved being around the sports environment, whether that’s a player, coach, or mental performance consultant, and think it can have a huge impact on any individual involved.
Why I’m Here: Being involved in sports my entire life has given me some of the most rewarding and challenging experiences, but the lessons and skills I’ve learned through it all have driven me to become the person I am today. Mental performance was introduced to me very late in my athletic career during the COVID-19 pandemic. I realized that what I was learning through my entire sport experience can be translated through my everyday life. This motivated me to be where I am today so that I can provide the services and resources early on in an athlete’s life so that they can continue to develop as not only athletes, but humans.
